"Olympians on campus"
Nieri Avanessian and Alyssa Lopez, students at Livonia Churchill High School, were among the nearly 1,500 students from regional middle schools and high schools who took part in the Science Olympiad held on campus on March 4. This is the first time the vent has been held at UM-Dearborn since the 1980s. "The parents and students were very impressed by the campus," according to CECS alumnus Andrew Toy, director of the Wayne County Science Olympiad and alumni advisor to the UM-Dearborn chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society that co-sponsored the event. "They thought we have a beautiful campus, and for many of them it was their fist time here." Katherine Leach, manager of biology laboratories in the Department of Natural Sciences, organized a number of the experiences for the students. “the main point of the Olympiad is to make science fun, and the kids had a blast,” Leach said.
